"Yutthpon, an immigrant from Thailand, set up a small restaurant in McLean, Virginia, in an old strip mall that serves Esaan food, a regional cuisine from the northeastern of Thailand that offers unique food that is different in taste and appearance from the Thai food known to Americans. His business is an immediate success, winning rave reviews and drawing more customers every year – yet Yutthpon has to confront unexpected cultural issues, such as culture shock and racial issues. Then the Covid-19 pandemic hits in 2020 – and Yutthpon has to deal with a sudden loss of business along with a new wave of anti-Asian discrimination."
