A Balanced Transaction: Analyzing the US-Turkey Alliance

Turkey has a long and complex relationship with the US. In recent years that relationship has become more strained, as Turkey and their leader Erdogan have turned away from democracy and Euro-Atlantic integration. Some have called for the lessening of the Turkish alliance as a response, but the geostrategic importance of Turkey would make such an extreme measure unwise. Turkey’s future relationship with the Atlantic world may be transactional, but transaction is preferable to termination.
