Biofilm and Water Quality Measurements Effects on Microplastic Abundance

These data sets were used in for Joseph Barnes' thesis "Effects of freshwater biofilm biodiversity, biomass, and water quality on microplastic abundance in the Potomac River," and for the resulting manuscript. The following bullets describe each uploaded csv file.


  • Water Data- All water quality parameter measurements, at both tested depths, for each date collected during the year-long collection period.
  • Biofilm Data- All biofilm growth data for all 8 biofilms descending      through the water column. 
  • Biodiversity Ungrouped Categories- This file displays all the taxa      and their abundance in area for each disc for each sampling date.
  • Biofilm OTU Area- This file takes all the taxa from "Biodiversity Ungrouped Categories" and lists each taxon in terms of the Operational Taxonomic Unit it fell into. This was mostly used for graphing and visualization purposes, rather than statistical analysis.
  • Biofilm Microplastics- This lists the microplastics found in each biofilm per sampling date. This data is included in other files, but is simplified here without all other biofilm growth and water parameter data.
  • Biofilm Data and OTU Area- A combined file that lists all biofilm growth results along with the OTU abundance for each biofilm by date
